Can Do Kids Fair

At the annual Can Do Kids Fair the fun is in the work, as kids learn practical skills and demonstrate the ones they already know. Activities designed for children age 3 to 10 are facilitated by preteen and teen volunteers. Children “make, do and fix” in areas such as these:

  • Cooking/Good Eats
  • Home Creating: vacuum, sew a button, use a sewing machine, wash dishes
  • Home Maintenance: painting, electricity, carpentry, plumbing
  • Bike Maintenance
  • People Skills: table and phone manners, introductions, gift wrapping and giving
  • The Good Earth: grow your own food
  • What’s Wrong With This Room? a game of detection
  • Passport to Self-Sufficiency
  • . . . and much more

The Can Do Kids Fair usually takes place each year on a Saturday afternoon in late winter, at PEP’s headquarters. However, PEP will not be holding a Can Do Kids Fair in 2017.

A comment from a 2015 fair attendee:

“It’s really educational. It’s my first time and it’s really fun for me and interesting. Manners was something I learned today that I didn’t know. And I didn’t know you could use a sewing machine to do a hem. You will learn a lot — stuff you never knew before.” Anna, age 9
