PEP History

PEP was founded in 1982 by Linda Jessup, R.N., M.P.H., F.N.P., who taught the first classes in her home. Incorporated as a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization in 1984, PEP expanded its classes into nearby schools and established its headquarters in 1990 in Kensington, where it remains today. Numbers of classes and parents taking them grew through the 1990s, and the instructor certification program was introduced in 1994. In 2000, after 17 years of leading the organization, Linda Jessup semi-retired and we welcomed a new executive director, Cheryl Wieker. In 2014, Cheryl Wieker retired and Kathy Hedge joined PEP as the new Executive Director. Today, PEP’s educational programs serve thousands of families each year.
